Operating systems have become able to run several programs simultaneously (Multiprogramming Operation System), as the programs that the user opens are placed in memory and at a tremendous speed that does not exceed parts of a second. The processor distributes time (Time Sharing) to the programs and executes their orders. The user feels that they are all working together at the same time.

These computers appeared in 1971-1980

In that period, giant companies in the field of manufacturing microprocessors such as Intel and AMD arose, in addition to Microsoft, which created the Windows operating system, and Apple, which invented the Macintosh operating system.

Fifth generation computers started in 1980

until today. In this generation, computers have become very durable, their speed is enormous, their storage capacity is very large, and they are available in different shapes and sizes to suit the needs of all users, in addition to that laptops that can work for a few hours without electricity have been invented.

In this generation, most of the machines contain microcomputer components inside them and depend on artificial intelligence in making decisions, so we see robots, cars and planes able to move and act on their own without human intervention. Also, navigation systems that direct motorists to shortcuts depend on artificial intelligence.
